Lil' BAT's Youth Theatre Program

Buckham Alley Theatre’s two-week theatre camp for kids in Genesee County

In response to the growing number of schools closing their theater programs, we have taken a stand to provide children in Genesee County with the opportunity to explore the world of performing arts through our outreach program – Lil' BAT's. Our mission with Lil' BAT's is to nurture a new generation of theater enthusiasts by instilling a love for the arts and empowering young minds. We understand the immense value that theater brings to individuals and communities—whether it’s boosting speaking skills, fostering creativity, or building confidence. Through active participation in theater, children not only enhance their fine motor skills but also develop critical problem-solving abilities.

About the Program
Week One: Theatre Foundations

During the first week, students will immerse themselves in the basics of theater. They will learn how to project their voices, express emotions, and understand stage presence. In addition to these foundations, our campers will collaborate to write their very own play, encouraging teamwork and creativity. Depending on enrollment, we anticipate creating multiple one-act plays, allowing each group to explore their unique storylines.

Week Two: Backstage Magic

The second week shifts focus to the fascinating world of technical theater. Students will dive into vital backstage roles, learning about stage management, lighting, sound design, props, and set building. This hands-on experience will allow them to create the necessary elements to bring their written productions to life, solidifying their understanding of what happens behind the scenes. At the end of this two-week program, participants will showcase their original productions to classmates, parents, and members of the local community. This not only highlights their hard work but also provides a sense of accomplishment and pride as they share their creativity.
